Backyard Whimsy Creations Summer Art Studio

Backyard Whimsy Creations is a joyful, hands-on summer art studio led by Charleston artist Sally Bunting.

Hosted in a relaxed backyard setting in West Ashley, this program invites children ages 6–13 to explore creativity through painting, mixed media, sculpture, and imaginative play.

This experience is designed to feel more like studio time than a traditional camp. Children are encouraged to experiment, make creative choices, and build confidence in their artistic voice in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Each session runs Monday through Thursday and features a unique creative theme. All materials are included, and space is intentionally limited.

Tuition: $410 per one-week session

Weekly Sessions

June 15-18: Color Lab

A playful exploration of color, movement, and expression. Artists will experiment with mixing colors, using different tools, and creating bold, joyful paintings.

June 22-25: Collage and Pattern

This week is all about layering, texture, and design. Kids will work with painted papers and mixed media to create vibrant, one-of-a-kind compositions.

June 29-July 2: Print Party

An introduction to the magic of printmaking. Artists will explore stamping, pattern building, and the joy of surprise results through hands-on printing techniques.

July 13-16: Clay and Sculpture Studio

A hands-on week working in three dimensions. Students will shape, build, and sculpt imaginative forms using clay and texture tools.

July 27-30: Tiny Worlds

Storytelling meets art as kids design and build miniature worlds inspired by imagination and creative play.

August 3-6: Nature as Muse

Inspired by the outdoors, this session focuses on observation and natural forms. Artists will create work using organic textures, botanical elements, and nature-inspired ideas.

Extended care beyond scheduled program hours is not included in standard tuition. Families who anticipate needing their child to stay later each day must arrange extended care in advance. An extended or all-day option may be available for an additional fee, with a minimum additional cost of $300 per child per week, depending on the length of time extended care is needed and subject to availability and approval.
